Training and hiring the disabled and persons vulnerable to social exclusion to form a crew to work at a cooked-food centre

In Singapore, the project team has been training and hiring persons with disabilities (PWDs) and socially excluded persons, providing them with assistive tools to work together in the hawker centre. The team proposes to replicate this successful model in Hong Kong to address the problem of a high unemployment rate of PWDs.

The venture will recruit a mix of PWDs and persons from groups vulnerable to social exclusion, such as the physically disabled, persons with mental health issues, autistic or mentally retarded persons, single mothers, etc. They will be given a series of structured and practical training which can accommodate individual learning needs as they join the community cooked-food centre to be set up by the team in Hong Kong.

The trained beneficiaries will then be hired and given specially-designed assistive tools to work in the food centre as stall leaders, stall assistants, service support and food production crew members depending on their abilities.
