Making use of Tactile-Audio Inter-action System to provide activities and services that facilitate social integration of the visually impaired

The project comprises launching the “Beyond Vision Awareness Month and Exhibition”, offering Tactile-Audio Interaction System (TAIS) consultations and training workshops, and developing the Tactile Visual Vocabulary System (TVVS).

“Beyond Vision Awareness Month and Exhibition” is a full month of multi-sensory art and cultural activities for persons with visual impairment (VI) and elderly with low vision. Activities will be conducted in partnership with organisations (such as museums, galleries, art and cultural venues, schools and universities) and individuals.

Consultation and workshops on TAIS tools and accessible programmes, such as tactile making and audio description training, will be provided to help collaborating parties convert 2D exhibits or images into tactile images, with the support of an auditory narration to convey the visual information of exhibits into guided verbal descriptions.

In addition, the venture aims to develop TVVS which is a universal language for VI persons to learn about visual information such as graphics and patterns. It aims to build a pattern and visual dictionary for VI people to enhance their learning ability.

Income will be generated from organising workshops and marketing events for corporates and school programmes, providing TAIS service to organisations, and selling tactile merchandise to the public.

The project will offer part-time or project-based employment to VI people in the production of art pieces or as workshop assistants.
