UNI Empowerment Program: Upskilling PWD by upcycling uniforms

job training and opportunities, persons with disabilities, Impact Incubator

Providing a training programme to enhance the self-confidence and employability of the underprivileged

The venture aims to empower underprivileged groups, enabling them to generate income, enhance self-identity and self-confidence, improve employability, and raise community awareness of social inclusion through providing job opportunities for experienced garment workers to transfer their skill sets to people with disabilities (PwD) in sheltered workshops.

It will hire elderly garment workers to conduct training sessions on garment upcycling for the PwD, with assistance from the staff of the sheltered workshops and the project team. The upcycling tasks for PwD will be divided into three levels of competency, each with different job duties and remuneration. This approach will broaden the range of tasks that can be assigned to PwD in the sheltered workshop, thereby creating an upskilling pathway for them to get out of poverty.
