Engaging the elderly in Sai Kung to design and build a community garden to foster social inclusion

Riding on the success of the prototype project “Mindful Green – Horticultural Therapy Services” supported by the SIE Fund in 2017, the project team proposes to launch an outdoor horticultural project to build a community garden in order to nourish the life of the elderly and promote cross-generation inclusion.

Trained elderly tutors from “Mindful Green – Horticultural Therapy Services” will lead the elderly residents in Sai Kung to design and build a community garden in the Sai Kung Community Centre. After attending training sessions, the elderly residents will become “MindfulGreen Ambassador” to help conduct workshops for participants of the community garden. Apart from the elderly, the project will also reach out to youth, rehabilitated persons and other residents to promote an inclusive community.
