Provision of a mobile app that brings pleasant grocery shopping experience to people of diverse race
Public markets are the most popular community space in Hong Kong. Visited by 3 million people daily, not only are the markets the place to buy fresh provisions, but also the heart and soul of a community. Nevertheless, today only 1 out of 10 non-ethnic Chinese visits the markets. Language poses the greatest difficulty in their daily life, barring them from enjoying the benefits of public markets and cheap food outlets.
Marketeer is Hong Kong’s first data-driven food image recognition mobile app dedicated to helping people of diverse race overcome the language barrier and learn about their food in real-time. With the help of this app, people of diverse race can enjoy a greater choice of healthy food at cheaper prices while developing ties with other social groups and a sense of belonging to the community.
Putting state-of-the-art visual recognising technology to social use and using food as the bridge, Marketeer is connecting people of different ethnic groups in the community.
