Free inspection and repair services on bathroom U-traps and ventilation systems for singleton elderly
Making reference to experiences in providing home maintenance services to the elderly in another funded project “Longevity Design House”, the project team identifies that a considerable number of the singleton elderly are exposed to hygiene risks under the COVID-19 epidemic. These risks are caused mainly by the ageing plumping systems or faulty installation of bathroom U-traps and ventilation systems in some of the old residential buildings.
To mitigate these risks, the venture provides free services to singleton elderly households on inspecting and repairing bathroom U-traps and ventilation systems, as well as spraying medical-grade photo-catalyst sanitizer.
The venture will hire unengaged plumbers as temporary staff to provide the checking and maintenance services and recruit volunteers as Ambassadors who will join the plumbers to visit the elderly. The Ambassadors will be responsible for understanding the needs of the elderly and disseminating anti-epidemic and COVID-19 related information to the elderly. They will also refer cases to relevant NGOs for follow-up actions if necessary.
